The Danner Memorial Window, a stained-glass masterpiece by Tiffany Studios, recently sold for $12.48 million at a Sotheby's auction, setting a new auction record for Tiffany Studios. The sale surpassed its pre-auction estimate of $5–7 million

Details of the Window:
Design and Creation The window was designed by Agnes Northrup, a prominent designer at Tiffany Studios, in 1913. Louis Comfort Tiffany relied on women, called the “Tiffany girls,” for the design and creation of the company’s windows, vases, and lamps
Description The 16-foot-high window features a landscape with fruit-laden trees, a winding river, and a sunset. red poppies adorn the base of the trees
Tribute The window was commissioned as a tribute to John and Terressa Danner, founding members of the First Baptist Church in Canton, Ohio, to honor their 50 years of service. The Danners were alive when the window was created, which was an uncommon gesture. An inscription at the bottom of the window quoted the book of Matthew: “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them"
Previous Ownership Before the recent auction, the window was owned by billionaire art collector Alan Gerry
Auction Significance The sale marked the first time a major Tiffany Studios work has appeared in a fine art evening sale, alongside pieces by artists like Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso. Jodi Pollack, Sotheby’s chairman and co-global head of 20th-century design, noted the sale as a landmark moment for the Tiffany market
